Questions from dental practices
Everything to know before you put a smile preview on your website. Anything missing? Email [email protected] and we'll reply within one business day.
The preview
What exactly does the patient see?
Their own photo with a new smile: gaps filled, wear repaired, stains lifted, a full arch, or an even gumline, depending on the treatment they pick. A slider compares before and after, and three tooth shades (Natural, Bright and Brilliant) switch instantly.
Which treatments can it show?
Five: best overall smile, replace missing teeth, a full new smile on implants, an even gumline, and whiter teeth. You choose which ones appear for your practice and in what order.
Does it change the rest of the face?
No. The AI only receives a close-up of the mouth, and the result is blended back into the original photo through a mask around the lips. Eyes, skin, hair and background stay exactly as they were.
How long does it take?
About 10 seconds from photo to result on a typical phone. The AI step itself is around two seconds.
Can patients edit or fake the result?
Instructions to the AI are fixed on our server for each treatment. Patients pick a treatment and a shade; they can't type their own instructions.
Is there a video?
Yes. Patients can save a vertical before-and-after video with your practice name on it. It's made on their phone in a few seconds and is ready to text or post.
Patient data and privacy
What does a patient have to give to see the result?
A first name and either a mobile number or an email address. If they then ask for a consultation, they add the days and time of day that suit them, and optionally a phone number and a note.
What happens to the photo?
The full photo stays on the patient's phone. A close-up of the mouth is sent to the AI, processed and returned, and isn't stored. If the patient leaves the box checked when they unlock, small before and after close-ups of their smile are sent to you with their details. How photos are used has the full detail.
Who can see a patient's details?
Your practice, in your dashboard, and Miles Media, which runs Smile Fitter and supports it. No advertising, analytics or data companies.
How long are leads kept?
Leads stay in your dashboard while you use Smile Fitter. When you stop, we delete them within 30 days of your request. Leads collected on a demo page are deleted automatically after 90 days.
Who is responsible for the data, you or us?
Your practice decides what happens with your patients' details, and we handle them on your behalf. Our data processing terms set that out.
Do you use patient photos to train AI?
No. Not ours, not anyone's.
Advertising and compliance
Will this get me in trouble with advertising rules?
It's built to stay on the right side of them. Previews are labeled as AI simulations, patients confirm they understand that before taking a photo, and the page never promises an outcome. US dental advertising falls under FTC truth-in-advertising rules and your state board, and you remain responsible for your own claims. See HIPAA and advertising.
Is Smile Fitter HIPAA compliant?
No software is "HIPAA compliant" on its own, and we don't sign Business Associate Agreements yet. What we can say is what Smile Fitter collects (very little), where it goes (your dashboard, on Cloudflare) and what it never touches (ad and analytics platforms). If your practice needs a BAA first, tell us.
Can I use a patient's preview in my own marketing?
Only with that patient's separate written permission. A preview made to help someone decide on treatment isn't consent to appear in your ads, and our terms say so.
Can I text patients who leave a mobile number?
Yes, to follow up on their request. Marketing texts need their consent, which is a separate, unchecked box on the form. Keep the two apart in your follow-up.
Install and setup
How do I install it?
Paste one script tag into your website, before the closing body tag:
<script src="https://smilefitter.com/embed.js" data-practice="your-practice" async></script>It adds a floating "See your new smile" button that opens the preview over your page. Your web developer can do it in a few minutes, or send us access and we'll do it.
Which website builders does it work with?
Any site that lets you add a script: WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Duda, Shopify and plain HTML. If yours doesn't, you can link to your preview page instead.
Can I change the button text, color or side of the screen?
Yes. The button label, color and left or right position are settings on the script tag.
Do I need to connect it to my CRM?
No. Leads live in your dashboard, and you can export them as a spreadsheet (CSV) for any CRM.
Can I use it without a website?
Yes. Your preview page has its own link. Put it in a text, an email, a QR code in the waiting room, or an ad.
Pricing and the beta
What does it cost?
Free while Smile Fitter is in beta. No card, no contract and no fee per lead. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any paid plan starts. You decide then whether to keep it.
What does beta mean for my practice?
Everything on this site works today and real patients use it. We're still adding features and may change how some things look. If something breaks, we fix it quickly and tell you.
Is there a limit on previews?
Each visitor can make up to 30 previews an hour, which stops bots and keeps costs sane. Normal patient traffic never gets near it.
How do I cancel?
Remove the script tag, or ask us to switch your page off. Ask us to delete your leads too and we'll do it within 30 days.
